Devlog 4: Art Seminar

Saving and loading is officially implemented! This was much easier than I anticipated since I am not committed to forcing compatibility for web and desktop.  The vanilla javascript JSON.stringify and JSON.parse mean that I can throw away all of the list iteration and array parsing I needed to do in the jam version, and I'm pretty happy with the results.

In Journey to the Pumpkin Planet, I want to tell the story of a city planner born in the final days of Earth's environmental collapse. Each chapter will take place at a different time and place, beginning with a childhood beach trip, where the player will build sandcastles and manage the ebb and flow of the tide. I went through a few drafts of a sand castle sprite and struggled to use the "tan" as a base in my existing palette. I posed my question to the feedback channel in the Pursuing Pixels discord and received tons of good tips from my developer pals. I might continue to make changes, but I'm pleased with the most recent version. You can see the progression below.

Special thanks to the talented artists who weighed in on my first drafts: Cardboardmoon, Riverbottom, Sapazu, and Davidnjihiahere.
